About

Katie Possum is a nickname that I was given at some point at varsity (thanks Jono), and have not been able to shake. I’ve kind of embraced it now (what else can you do?) and used it to blog in a vaguely-anonymous way for the last few years.

If you really desperately must know my real name, email me and introduce yourself (katiepossum[at]gmail.com), I might reply.

I work in the journalism and new media industry/space in Johannesburg, South Africa – a place I am starting to call home (terrifying thought). I originally hail from the heart of the Eastern Cape (East London, Grahamstown, Morgan Bay, Transkei) and consider myself a Wild Coast girl to the core. I take great pride in this fact, and am often found defending my fishing ability (useless) and my love of mud (genuine), as if it is incontrovertible proof that I am not a poppie.

I think aloes are the most beautiful plants, and nothing fills me with happiness the way a hilly horizon dotted with orange aloes does. Well, maybe long windy roads and deserted beaches too. Oh, and highveld thunderstorms … and heavy metal … and taking a great photo … and puppies (all claims to being hard core fly out the window) … and other stuff too.
